Marine Unit

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office Marine Unit patrols all navigable waterways in Butte County.  Those waterways are Sly Creek Reservoir, Lake Oroville, Feather River, the Thermalito Afterbay and the Sacramento River.  We enforce all laws that relate to the waterways and educate the public about safety measures they should take to have a safe and enjoyable time on the water.  The BCSO Marine Unit also provides safety education to local schools and responds as needed to emergencies on the water.

The BCSO Marine Unit consists of three deputies, one sergeant and one part-time clerk.  We currently have two aluminum jet boats equipped with sonar, radar and FLIR (Forward Looking Infra-Red).  The BCSO Marine Unit also has three personal watercraft equipped with rescue sleds for quick rescues of people caught on snags or in danger of drowning.
