BUTTE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE DEPUTIES SAVE CHRISTMAS FOR VICTIM OF RESIDENTIAL BURGLARY

Chico, Ca--On 12/16/16, at approximately 4:40 p.m., Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) deputies responded to a residence on Wells Island Road, in Chico, for an extensive burglary to a residence.  The homeowner had just arrived home and found her house had been broken into with items missing.  Items taken from the residence included a television, desk top computer, 2 iPads, a large amount of miscellaneous jewelry, miscellaneous household items, antiques, miscellaneous electronics, as well as numerous wrapped Christmas presents from under the Christmas tree.

At approximately the same time, other BCSO deputies were dispatched to the area of Centerville Road at Nimshew Run Road, after receiving reports of two male subjects outside a maroon colored SUV opening Christmas presents.  The reporting party stated the subjects became nervous when they saw him, and left heading down Centerville Road.  Deputies responded to the area and, after an extensive search, located the maroon SUV hidden under a pile of brush and wood pallets.  The vehicle was unoccupied at the time.  Additional deputies responded to the area and located a male subject later identified as Joshua Olson.  Olson admitted to being in the maroon SUV along with a second subject, James Rogers, who was not located.

A search of the vehicle was conducted by deputies.  The vehicle contained numerous items of property, including a television, desktop computer, 2 iPads, jewelry, numerous household items, and wrapped Christmas presents. Deputies also located 8.8 grams of methamphetamine, along with multiple syringes used to inject controlled substances. There was also paperwork in the vehicle with the same address of the residence on Wells Island Road where the residential burglary had just been reported, indicating the property was taken from that address. Deputies contacted the victim of the burglary, and found that the property in the SUV matched the property that was taken from her residence.  Deputies collected the property and returned it to the victim, including the wrapped Christmas presents.  The total value of items returned to the victim was approximately $16,000.

Joshua Olson, 06/09/1989, was arrested for burglary, receiving known stolen property, possession of a controlled substance, and possession of controlled substance paraphernalia.

Anyone with information regarding James Rogers is encouraged to contact the Butte County Sheriff’s Office at 538-7322.
