On Saturday April 25, 2015, Butte County Sheriff’s Deputy Hooks observed a previously reported stolen Honda Civic driving on Montgomery Street in Oroville. Deputy Hooks attempted to stop the car and it fled southbound on Highway 70 in excess of 100 MPH. With minimal other traffic the suspect continued to flee to Central House Road, across to the town of Honcut, then up through eastern Palermo ultimately fleeing across Cynthiann Lane and up Drescher Tract Road. Other Deputies and the California Highway Patrol responded to the area to assist and the suspect lost control of the Honda at Drescher Tract Road and Pinecrest Road, wrecking into the ditch. The driver got out of the car and ran away, leaving two passengers behind.
The passengers were detained and treated at the scene for injuries received from the wreck. The investigation revealed that the passengers were not responsible for the theft of the vehicle, and were released. The investigation is continuing to identify and arrest the driver.
