Suspect Vehicle Located in Rose Avenue Homicide

UPDATED PRESS RELEASE March 20, 2015 AT 3:45 PM:

The suspect vehicle, a 1989 primer grey Chevy pick-up truck with a white or chrome tool box in the truck bed, California license plate 8E28926 has been located.  A citizen called in to the Chico Police Department at approximately 12:15 pm after seeing the vehicle parked in the area of 3rd Avenue and Oleander in Chico.  The vehicle was seized by Butte County Sheriff’s Detectives and will be processed for physical evidence.

Victim Identified in Rose Avenue Homicide

The victim of the homicide on Rose Avenue has been identified as 55 year old Cass Jean Edison from Chico, CA.  The 1989 Chevy truck is still outstanding.

Human remains found along Sacramento River

Chico, Ca- On Sunday, March 8, 2015 at approximately 12:00 pm, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office responded to an area along the west bank of the Sacramento River across from Scotty’s Landing after being informed by the California Department of Fish and Game that part of a human skull was exposed from the dirt.  A Fish and Game officer was working with his dog in the area and came across the remains. 

After confirming the location fell within Butte County, detectives responded along with Chico State Forensic Anthropologists to process the scene.  At this point, it appears the remains have been there for at least a year and is an older male.  The examination of the skeleton is still being conducted.  Detectives have been in contact with other agencies in an attempt to identify the decedent.

Suspect Arrested for Rose Avenue Homicide

UPDATED PRESS RELEASE:

On March 18, 2015 at approximately 4:30 pm, Butte County Sheriff’s Office Detectives arrested Christopher Swihart at a local Chico attorney’s office without incident.   The 1989 Chevy truck is still outstanding. 

 

Original Press Release:

Chico, CA- On March 16, 2015, at approximately 8:20 am, the resident at 211 Rose Avenue called to report that he was leaving for work when he located a deceased woman in his employer’s dump trailer.  Deputies responded and confirmed that the woman was deceased.  Detectives responded to the scene to begin an investigation.  The woman’s death has been deemed a homicide.  An autopsy has been scheduled for later this week. 

The victim is a Caucasian female, age 55, from Chico, CA.  Her identity is being withheld at this time pending family notification. An arrest warrant has been issued charging the suspect, Christopher Warren Swihart, Sr. (age 49) with murder.  IF YOU SEE HIM, CALL 911 - DO NOT APPROACH. Swihart is described as a Caucasian male, 5’5” tall, 180 pounds, brown hair, and blue eyes.  Swihart may still be in Butte County.  It is believed that the victim and Swihart did know each other.

Detectives are trying to locate Swihart’s truck, a 1989 primer grey Chevy pick-up truck with a white or chrome tool box in the truck bed, California license plate 8E28926.
