Oroville, CA – Butte County Sheriff’s Office received a call on March 28, 2015 at 8:01 pm from a female caller regarding shots being fired on or near her property. The female caller then reported hearing someone yelling that someone had been shot. Moments later, family members and friends found Donald Able, DOB 1/24/1967, in his vehicle unresponsive.  

Deputies and paramedics responded to 445 Craig Access Road, lower Feather Falls area, and found the victim, Donald

Able in his vehicle with apparent gunshots wounds. Medics were unable to revive Donald Able. Butte County Sheriff

Detectives are investigating possible motives for the shooting. The investigation in ongoing.

Burglary in Chico


On March 27, 2015 at approximately 3:30 am, deputies responded to Kwikee Food Mart located at 3990 Esplanade in Chico as a result of call by a passerby, reporting the front door to the business appeared to be open. Deputies and Chico Police Officers responded to the scene and discovered the front door window was broken out. The side door to the business had been manipulated but not opened.

The suspect(s) stole two (2) cash registers from the business. One of the cash registers was later recovered by officers in a nearby field. An undisclosed amount of money was stolen during the burglary.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the circumstances of the burglary and urges anyone who might have information regarding burglary to contact Butte County Sheriff’s Office Investigations Division or the watch commander at (530) 538-7321 or 891-2711.

Suspect Vehicle Located in Rose Avenue Homicide

UPDATED PRESS RELEASE March 20, 2015 AT 3:45 PM:

The suspect vehicle, a 1989 primer grey Chevy pick-up truck with a white or chrome tool box in the truck bed, California license plate 8E28926 has been located.  A citizen called in to the Chico Police Department at approximately 12:15 pm after seeing the vehicle parked in the area of 3rd Avenue and Oleander in Chico.  The vehicle was seized by Butte County Sheriff’s Detectives and will be processed for physical evidence.

Victim Identified in Rose Avenue Homicide

The victim of the homicide on Rose Avenue has been identified as 55 year old Cass Jean Edison from Chico, CA.  The 1989 Chevy truck is still outstanding.
