Butte County Sheriff’s Office Announces Arrest of British Columbia’s Most Wanted Fugitive for Murder
Oroville, CA – Today the Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) announced the arrest of Brandon Teixeira, age 28 of Canada. The arrest is the culmination of an investigation that began in November 2019. On November 29, the United States Marshal’s Office contacted BCSO about Teixeira. U.S. Marshals had received information that Teixeira, who was wanted for homicide in Canada, was possibly in the Oroville area. BCSO Designated Area Deputies and Detectives immediately began assisting the U.S. Marshal’s Office with the investigation. BCSO personnel conducted an investigation and determined Teixeira had been residing at a residence in the 100 block of Weedy Way, Oroville.
On November 30, BCSO obtained a search warrant for the residence on Weedy Way. BCSO personnel conducted on-going surveillance of the Weedy Way residence. On the morning of December 1, the BCSO SWAT Team, BCSO Detectives, U.S. Marshals, members of the Chico Police Department SWAT Team, and members of the Tehama County SWAT Team served the search warrant.
Teixeira and a male, later identified as Jeff Guerrier, age 30 of New York exited the residence after several minutes. Teixeira did not comply with BCSO orders and got into a vehicle on the property. In an attempt to escape, Teixeira rammed a BCSO armored vehicle with his vehicle. After ramming the BCSO armored vehicle, Teixeira rapidly backed his vehicle up in an attempt to escape. BCSO personnel used a second armored vehicle to disable Teixeira’s vehicle. Teixeira exited his vehicle and did not follow BCSO commands. BCSO used a K-9 to take Teixeira into custody. After obtaining a medical clearance at a local hospital, U.S. Marshals took custody of Teixeira, and are holding him in federal custody pending extradition proceedings.
During the service of the search warrant, BCSO personnel located approximately 26 pounds of heroin, over 1,000 OxyContin and Percocet pills, and an estimated 40 pounds of marijuana. The Butte Interagency Narcotics Task Force (BINTF) responded and collected the narcotics. Guerrier was later booked for the following charges: harboring and concealing a wanted felon, possession of heroin for sale, and possession of marijuana for sale. BINTF Detectives are conducting follow-up on the narcotics investigation. BCSO and BINTF Detectives will be working with the Butte County District Attorney’s Office and the U.S. Marshal’s Office regarding any local, state and federal charges against Teixeira. The Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone with additional information to contact Sergeant Pat McNelis or Sergeant Sam Burnett at 530-538-7671.
