Life In Juvenile Hall

A Typical Juvenile Hall Day

Minors are wakened by staff right after 6am. They have morning showers followed by morning chores and breakfast at 7:30am. After breakfast, time is allowed for personal hygiene, dish crew cleanup. The Butte County Office of Education meets the required specialized needs of students through year-round educational instruction provided by staff of Table Mountain School (TMS). TMS begins at 8:30am and ends at 2:55pm, with a break for lunch.

After school, there are various letter-writing, homework time, recreation, counseling, and group activities before and after 5:00pm when dinner is served. Such organizations as Public Health, Rape Crisis Intervention, Catalyst, Northern Valley Catholic Social Services, and Foster Grandparent Program provide services for the minors. Evening activities also include counseling, Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Narcotics Anonymous (NA), religious activities, and general free time.

We enjoy a special partnership with the Boys and Girls Clubs of America. Monday through Friday the Boys and Girls Clubs staff members work with the youth inside the juvenile hall in a living area redesigned for this purpose. Structured club activities occur there, and programmatic aftercare services for the youth continue once the youth re-enters the community. This "Targeted Re-Entry Program" is designed to facilitate the delinquent’s positive transition back into the community. The Boys and Girls Clubs also establishes relationships with a variety of community agencies to ensure the youth has access to additional services that support his/her after-care needs.

Bedtime ranges from 7:00pm to 9:00pm.
