Public Health

The mission of the Butte County Public Health Department (BCPHD) is to protect the public through promoting individual, community, and environmental health.

Public Health Annual Exams

Having a yearly gynecological exam is an important aspect of responsible preventive health care and ensuring your physical and reproductive well-being. Most doctors now recommend an annual Pap smear for most women ages 21 and older.  Women should have a gynecological exam every year whether or not they are due for a Pap smear.  Avoiding routine yearly gynecological exams increases the risk for:

  • Unintended pregnancy
  • Pelvic infections
  • Potentially delaying diagnosis of diseases such as ovarian and breast cancer.

Our Healthcare Providers are committed to providing quality health information, education and services. Licensed personnel, under the direction of the Public Health Officer, provide services in a timely, confidential, and customer-friendly atmosphere.
