Battalion Chief Tony Brownell

I began my fire service career in Nov 1987 at the age of 18 with Butte County Fire Rescue/ North Chico Volunteer Company 42. I was an active member for 14 years. The day after graduating from Pleasant Valley High School I reported to duty with CAL FIRE at Paskenta Station in Tehama County as a FF1. After a season and a half I transferred to the Butte Unit as a FF1, I spent time at North Chico Station 42, Oroville Station 62, Palermo Station 72 and Kelly Ridge Station 64.

In the summer of 1996 I promoted to Fire Apparatus Engineer in the Butte Unit and was assigned to Battalion 2 as a relief operator working between Butte Meadows, Cohasset, and Stirling City Stations. The following year I transferred to Battalion 6 and worked at Kelly Ridge Station.

In 2001 I promoted to Fire Captain in the Butte Unit and worked in Battalion 1 and 5 for a year and then moved to Kelly Ridge Station 64. In 2006 I transferred to the Training Bureau as a Training Captain in charge of live fire training and the CFFJAC (apprentice) program.

In March of 2014 I promoted to Battalion Chief in the Butte Unit. I am currently assigned as the relief BC where I have the opportunity to work throughout the county covering where needed. I am the Units schedule manager and per-plan coordinator.

I am a Team Leader on both the Hazardous Material Team and the Technical Rescue Team. I serve as an Operations Section Chief for CAL FIRE Incident Management Team I.

I live in Chico with my daughter Bailey. I enjoy hunting, fishing, wood working, and welding.
