Butte County Fire Department is the largest fire department north of Sacramento, California to Eugene, Oregon. We are a combination of career and citizen volunteer firefighters.

Air Attack Base 2015 Year In Review

Built in 1969, Chico Air Attack Base (CAAB), is home to one OV-10A Air Attack and one S2T Air Tanker.  The S2T is capable of hauling 1,200 gallons of fire retardant. Any Air Tanker landing at CAAB can load with retardant in one of three-drive thru pits, filling at a rate of 500 gallons per minute. CAAB has a maximum daily delivery of 100,000 gallons per day. Throughout northern California, CAAB has the capability to service and support all types of air tankers. Personnel assigned to the base include one Battalion Chief, two Fire Captains, one Limited-Term Fire Apparatus Engineer, seven Firefighter 1s, two contract Pilots and one contract aircraft mechanic.
