Butte County Fire Department is the largest fire department north of Sacramento, California to Eugene, Oregon. We are a combination of career and citizen volunteer firefighters.

Our Mission: "To provide professional services to protect lives, property, and environment to those residing, working or traveling with in the unincorporated areas of Butte County, the cities of Biggs and Gridley and the Town of Paradise."

Assistant Chief Jamie Norton

I began my public service career in 1992 as a Paramedic after serving in the US Army. My career has taken me from volunteer firefighter to my current assignment as Assistant Chief- Administrative Division.

After two years as a local government firefighter/engineer, I accepted a position with Cal Fire Riverside Unit as a Limited Term Firefighter II Paramedic. I then accepted a Limited Term Engineer position with the Nevada Yuba placer unit and was assigned to the Marysville Station.  In 1999, I moved on to a Paramedic Engineer position with the San Mateo Santa Cruz Unit. I spent the next 13 year in the San Mateo area promoting to Captain Paramedic, and then Battalion Chief. I was assigned as the Paramedic Coordinator for several years, representing the Coast section of the San Mateo County pre-hospital JPA.

In 2012 I transferred to the Santa Clara Unit. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to be assigned as the Battalion Chief of a new Schedule A contract, The Morgan Hill Fire Department. This was a unique opportunity; as the department was being reestablished by the city, through Cal Fire and was basically rebuilt from scratch.

In 2014 I promoted to Assistant Chief in the Santa Clara Unit, South Bay Operations. During this assignment I oversaw the operations of the Morgan Hill Emergency Command Center, The City of Morgan Hill Fire Department, The South Santa Clara County Fire District, three State Battalions, and the Alma Heli tack base.

In 2016 I was assigned to my current position as Assistant Chief-Administrative Division. I currently oversee the Administrative staff for the Butte Unit, the Oroville Emergency Command Center, the Service Center, Fleet management, and the Fire Prevention Bureau.
