I began my fire service experience in 1981 as a Firefighter I in Tuolumne Calaveras Unit and continued to be a Firefighter I in the Unit while attending college until 1986. In 1986 I joined the Santa Cruz City Fire Department where I served as a Firefighter and Firefighter/Operator. In April of 1988 I returned to state service as a Fire Apparatus Engineer with CAL FIRE / Butte County Fire Department.  For the past 26 years I have had the privilege to hold the ranks of Fire Captain, ECC Captain, Training Officer Captain, Training and Safety Bureau Battalion Chief, Field Battalion Chief, Administrative Assistant Chief, Interim Fire Chief and my current position as Fire Chief.

I hold an AS degree in Fire Science from Cabrillo College, completed State Fire Marshal’s Fire Officer Certification  and Fire Chief Certification. I was a member of an Incident Management Team as an Incident Commander trainee and have also served as an Operations Section Chief, Branch Section Chief and Training Specialist. I have had an opportunity to serve on various committees and teaching cadres such as: CAL FIRE Respiratory Protection Program, CAL FIRE Branding Committee, CAL FIRE representative on California Fire Fighter Joint Apprenticeship Committee re-write Wildland Urban Interface curriculum, State Fire Marshal curriculum development for the revision of Rescue Systems I, member to the  CAL FIRE statewide Exposure Control Plan, contributing member for CAL FIRE’s  Train Tracker  Program,  President of the Butte County Interagency Training Officers Association, Board  member of the Emergency Services Foundation, Butte County Pre-Hospital Fire and ALS  member, and technical rescue instructor for Butte Community College Fire Academy.

I currently live in Chico with my wife Vicky.  We have two adult children, Meagan and Sean, of whom we are very proud. I have had the pleasure to teach International for Emergency Service Fund in Quintana Roo, Mexico and Talcahuano, Chile. I enjoy traveling, boating, snow skiing, and quality time with family and friends.
