I began my career in the fire service in June, 1987 as a crew member at the Butte Fire Center, promoting to crew leader within six months. In the spring of 1988, I became a Resource Protection Trainee (RPT) at the Vina Helitack base and the next winter, was assigned to Red Bluff Head Quarters working on the Schedule A engine.
In 1989 I was hired in the Tehama-Glenn Unit (TGU) as a seasonal firefighter working at the Red Bluff, Vina, and Baker stations for 5 seasons. In 1994, I was hired in the Butte Unit (BTU) as a firefighter at Jarbo Gap (Station 36) for two seasons.
In January, 1996 I took a Dispatcher Clerk position in the Butte Unit and the next year promoted to Limited Term (LT) Fire Apparatus Engineer (FAE) at Forest Ranch (Station 23). For the next two years, I rotated between the Dispatch Clerk and Engineer position. In 1999 I accepted a permanent FAE position, assigned to Oroville Head Quarters (Station 63), Stirling City (Station 13), Bangor (Station 55), and battalion relief in Chico (Battalion 4).
In June, 2003 I accepted a Temporary Assignment (TAU) as Fire Captain in the Santa Clara Unit (SCU) for the summer, working as relief at the Morgan Hill, Pacheco Pass, and Coyote Stations. In April, 2004 I accepted a Permanent Fire Captain position in Lassen Modoc Unit (LMU). For the next 11 years I worked in the camp program working in LMU at the Susanville Training Center and Antelope Camp, in TGU at Valley View Camp, and in the San Benito-Monterey Unit (BEU) Gabilan Camp.
In November, 2015 I promoted to Battalion Chief in BEU, overseeing Prevention and Planning for the Pebble Beach Community Service District, and the Cypress and Carmel Highlands Fire Protection Districts. In April, 2019 I transferred back to the Butte Unit where I began my career, working as the Chief of Battalion 5. In 2022 I transferred to Battalion 1, overseeing the communities of Stirling City, Magalia, Paradise, and Jarbo Gap.
