Born and raised in Chico, California I am third generation CDF/CAL FIRE. My experience in the fire service began at the age of 16 when I signed on as a charter member of the Butte Fire Explorer Post 414, and began taking courses at Butte College towards an AS degree in Fire Science. During my time as an Explorer I was assigned to some of Butte County’s large campaign fires. There were specific experiences that occurred during these fires that instilled in me the tremendous responsibility a firefighter holds and I knew I wanted to be a part of it. I left these incidents with a much clearer understanding of the value of education, experience, and commitment, and I have never looked back.
I began my time as a firefighter in the Tehama-Glenn Unit. My assignments included stations in Red Bluff, Corning, Paskenta, and Elk Creek. I started as a seasonal firefighter which gave me the time to also serve as a Volunteer Firefighter with the City of Chico, a member of the Butte County Search and Rescue Team, and a VIP for the Butte County Fire Department. In 2007 I promoted to Fire Apparatus Engineer with the Sonoma-Lake-Napa Unit where I became an aerial ladder truck operator and a swift water and technical rescue team member and instructor. I also served as a California Fire Explorer Advisor.
My first term as a Fire Captain was at the Valley View Conservation Camp. I took a Station Captain position in April, 2014 at the Tehama-Glenn Unit’s Red Bank Fire Station during which time I also worked as a Captain in the Training Bureau. In February, 2016 I was afforded the opportunity to come back to my roots in Butte County as a Station Captain in Durham, overseeing the unit-wide breathing apparatus program.
I promoted to Battalion Chief overseeing the Training, Safety & EMS Bureau in March, 2017. In 2020 I became a Field Battalion Chief overseeing Battalion 2, and in 2021 transferred to Battalion 4, covering the communities of Durham and parts of Chico. In 2022 I promoted to Division Chief of Butte County's north division, consisting of Battalions 1, 2, 4, and 8, including the Town of Paradise.
