The mission of the Butte County Library is to serve the Learning, Cultural, and Community needs of the diverse populations of our County.

Important Library Announcements-


In an effort to bring more connectivity and bridge the digital divide, Butte County Library is pleased to offer 1 week checkouts of the Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.4”with unlimited data at the Chico, Oroville, Paradise, and Gridley Branches.  Learn how the Android Operating System works, create a Gmail Account, surf the web, and download apps! 

As well, the Paradise Branch is offering 1 week checkouts of Wi-fi Hotspots to connect your devices- a laptop, smartphone, tablet. This service is provided by a grant from the North Valley Community Fund.



Don’t wish to come in to the library to pick up items?
Butte County Library offers curbside service at all library branch locations.

Reserve items online through your library card by phone at 530.552.5652 option 2, or e-mail.  After receiving notice that your holds are available to pick up, log in to your library account to schedule a curbside pickup appointment.

Limited use of public computers is now available.  All Covid-19 safety precautions will remain in place.

Computers will be spaced at least 6 feet apart, with a limited use of one hour a day per patron.  For access, users will be issued a guest pass. Supplies will be on hand for patrons to wipe down their computer station.  Staff will also clean stations throughout the day.

Library patrons are encouraged to browse and check-out items; however, chairs will only be available at the computer stations.  Staff assistance will be limited. In accordance with COVID-19 guidelines, physical distancing and masks will be required.

To comply with COVID-19 reopening guidelines, and for the safety of library staff and patrons, social distancing measures will be in place. Library patrons are required to wear face coverings, in accordance with California Department of Public Health face covering guidance. Butte County Library staff members are available by phone at 530.552.5652, Tuesday through Saturday from 10AM-5PM.

Butte County Library branch hours are as follows:

  • Biggs Branch: Tuesday Noon-6PM and Saturday 10AM-4PM
  • Chico Branch: Tuesday-Saturday 10AM-4PM
  • Durham Branch: Tuesday-Wednesday Noon-6PM, Thursday-Friday 10AM-5PM
  • Gridley Branch: Tuesday-Wednesday Noon-6PM, Thursday-Saturday 10AM-4PM
  • Oroville Branch: Tuesday-Saturday 10AM-4PM
  • Paradise Branch: Tuesday and Thursday 1PM-6PM, and Saturday 11AM-4PM

We have a new phone number!
As part of County phone upgrade, Butte County Library has a new phone number! All library patrons, regardless of their home branch, should call the library at 530.552.5652 Tuesday through Saturday from 10AM-5PM, for all of their library needs. Individual branch numbers are discontinued. Literacy Services can still be reached at 1.888.538.7198 or email Literacy@buttecounty.net.

Sitting furniture and in person programs will remain suspended until further notice.

  • All library branch locations are accepting returns.
  • Donations cannot be accepted.
  • All meeting room reservations are cancelled until further notice.
  • WiFi is available for use with your own device. 
  • Limited public computers are available at every branch (guest pass is required).
