BUTTE COUNTY ISSUES LOCAL EMERGENCY PROCLAMATION IN RESPONSE TO RECENT STORM ACTIVITY
Oroville, Ca— A powerful, slow moving, atmospheric river struck California beginning on February 3, 2024 and is expected to continue for several days. Butte County has been impacted by significant wind and rain causing road closures and property damage due to flooding and downed trees.
In an effort to ensure Butte County is in the best possible position to respond to storm related impacts, Acting Chief Administrative Officer, Meegan Jessee, issued a local emergency proclamation. “Not only does an emergency proclamation ensure regulations that may hinder response and recovery efforts are waived, it also allows us to request additional resources, which helps us better respond to the needs of our community,” Jessee said.
Butte County residents are encouraged to stay informed and prepared. Additional wind and rainfall is expected. On January 30, 2024, Butte County Emergency Management authorized sand and sand bags to be delivered to eight locations throughout unincorporated Butte County. “The sand and sand bags are available free of charge to Butte County residents,” Butte County Emergency Management Deputy Administrative Officer, Briana Haberman said, “Residents are reminded to bring their own shovel to fill the bags.” Emergency Management plays an important role in coordinating efforts to support the community during disasters. A list of locations with sand and sand bags is available on the Butte County Public Works webpage, as well as a list of roadways closed due to flooding.
