BUTTE COUNTY LIBRARY ANNOUNCES THE RETURN OF THE SUMMER READING PROGRAM
Find Your Voice! at your local library this summer
From Saturday, June 3rd – Saturday July 29th, the library will host a range of activities for children, teens, and adults to encourage and support a love of reading. Participants can earn prizes for reaching their reading goals.
There will be special Summer Reading programs every week including games & crafts for all ages, Story walks in the Park, and virtual bowling for community seniors! In addition, at the end of summer, we will be hosting special events with local animal conservation groups NorCal Bats, Uncle Jer’s Bee Show, & Wild Things!
Participation in summer reading programs helps prevent Summer Slide, which is when students lose the reading gains they worked so hard for during the school year because they stop reading during the summer.
Registration for the Summer Reading Program is through the online platform Beanstack or at any one of our six branches. Prizes will be awarded when readers accomplish their goals, and special awards will be handed out at the end of the summer.
Butte County Library will also be participating in the Lunch at the Library program, funded by the California State Library. Any child 0-18 can come to the Oroville Library for lunch, Monday-Friday, 12:00-1:00pm. There will be special programming everyday during this lunch service. There will be pop-up programming at the Chico and Paradise summer meals sites.
Through a partnership with Community Action Agency of Butte County, boxes of shelf stable food will be available weekly at the Oroville and Gridley branches.
