Having a safe and effective vaccine is the top priority. Approving vaccines as safe, and making sure they work, is up to several scientific groups at the Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The CDC Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices and other groups look at available information about a vaccine and make informed decisions about the risks and benefits of using it. Before vaccines are authorized in California, both the CDC and the Western States Scientific Safety Review Workgroup (WSSSR) must review and approve these recommendations. The WSSSR provides an additional layer of vaccine safety review for California and other western states. If authorized by the CDC and WSSSR, Butte County will follow these recommendations.
