As a community-based law enforcement agency with a unique role, the primary mission of the Probation Department is public safety. Effective probation work prevents further crime, either by rehabilitation of the offender or removal from the community. Probation Officers are sworn peace officers with the power to arrest, search, and perform specific law enforcement functions. In Butte County you may see Probation staff in a variety of roles: Treatment Provider, Court Officer, BINTF Agent, Juvenile Hall Counselor, or High Intensity Field Supervision Officer.
No matter the role, Butte County Probation staff are here to help and to protect the public.
