Meet Jason Dyer, Battalion Chief, Training, Safety & Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Bureau.
Our Training Bureau is located in Durham and overseen by Battalion Chief Jason Dyer. The CAL FIRE/Butte County Fire Training, Safety & EMS Bureau provides training to the career and volunteer staff throughout Butte County. We have a staff of four captains (JAC, EMS, SAFETY, and Volunteer Training Coordinator) as well as an office assistant. We provide professional-level hands-on and classroom-level training.
Openshaw Training grounds is a constantly evolving training facility that allows fire department personnel as well as law enforcement to train in a variety of situations. We have an approved Rescue Systems training site as well as a burn building, multiple roof ventilation props, door-forcing props, two-story prop for various drills, and soon a four-story training tower.
The Butte County Fire Department Training Program goal is to assure quality service to the public by developing the skills and abilities of all Butte County Fire Department's career and volunteer personnel. This is accomplished through training that is economical, effective, and consistent with the needs of the public, the County of Butte, the Department, and the employee.
