Battalion 7 covers the valley floor in the southwestern part of the county. It is home to the first two city contracts CAL FIRE acquired in Butte County, Gridley and Biggs, dating back to the mid-1990s.
Station 71 is responsible for the area around Richvale, some of the most fertile rice-growing land in the world, and is home to the county's Medical Support Unit, a pickup truck filled with medical supplies that can be dispatched to Mass Casualty Incidents with numerous patients requiring medical care.
Station 73 in Biggs is where we keep our cache of Personal Protective Equipment. The station stays busy between responding to calls and keeping the more than 200 firefighters in the unit supplied with safety gear.
Station 74 covers the city of Gridley and surrounding areas, and is home to one of the Butte Unit's two ladder trucks, Truck 74. This busy station runs two crews year-round, utilizing both Truck 74 and Engine 74. In addition, Station 74 is the home of our Type I Swiftwater Rescue Team. This dedicated group of firefighters has worked incredibly hard to become one of the most well-regarded water rescue teams in the state, and annually hosts a water rescue symposium that attracts first responders from around the world.
