Overview
The Surface Mining Aggregate Operations Committee was created at the direction of the Board of Supervisors in 1984 through Resolution 84-197 (PDF) as subsequently amended by Resolution 99-101 (PDF). The Committee's purpose is to advise the Board of Supervisors on all matters pertaining to surface mining including, but not limited to, mining permit and reclamation plan applications, financial assurances, and mining operation compliance with the Butte County surface mining and reclamation ordinance (Chapter 13, Article II of the Butte County Code). Each County Supervisor nominates one member to the Committee; nominees are then appointed by the entire Board of Supervisors. Terms of appointment coincide with the elective term of the nominating Supervisor.
