A number of health care coverage options are now available for qualifying individuals and families. Each program has its own rules to determine who is eligible and the cost, if any, of coverage.


New Asset Limit Changes for Medi-Cal

The limit on the amount of assets you can own and still be eligible for Medi-Cal went up on July 1, 2022.

What are assets?

Assets are things you own that can be counted for Medi-Cal eligibility. These items include bank accounts, cash, second vehicles and homes, and other financial resources. Please see below for examples.

What are the new limits?

The new limits are $130,000 for one person and an additional $65,000 for each additional family member. Please see below for more information.

Effective January 1, 2024, there will be NO Asset Limits for Medi-Cal

Ages 26 through 49 Adult Full-Scope Medi-Cal Expansion

Beginning January 1, 2024, a new law in California will allow adults ages 26 through 49 to qualify for full-scope Medi-Cal, regardless of immigration status. All other Medi-Cal eligibility rules, including income limits, will still apply.

How to Apply

Butte County residents can apply at any Community Employment Centers listed under Connect with Benefits. You can complete an interview at the office or by phone. In some cases, you may be able to complete an interview at another location.

If you require an interpreter, please request one when scheduling your appointment so that one can be made available for the interview. There is no cost to you for the services of an interpreter.

Upcoming Deadline for January 1 Coverage

Covered California's open enrollment period runs through January 31, 2024. In order for coverage to start on January 1, 2024, you must sign up by December 31, 2023.
