The Butte County Sheriff’s Marine Unit provides uniformed law enforcement to the County’s navigable waterways via patrol vessel, rescue watercraft, vehicle, helicopter, and foot patrol. The Marine Unit trains personnel in all aspects of boating safety, rescue, and enforcement. Deputies frequently provide tow, mechanical, and rescue assistance on our waterways. In addition, the Marine unit provides patrols, security, and enforcement for critical infrastructure within the California State Water Project. Through comprehensive enforcement and safety programs, deputies assigned to the Marine Unit provide education to the general public and schools, conduct vessel inspections and attend local events throughout the year. The Marine Unit strives to meet the needs of the public by maintaining safe and sober waterways, and continues to work toward providing boating and water safety education to the boating and water recreation community within Butte County.
