Butte County's Department of Water and Resource Conservation was formed on July 1, 1999 following many years implementing programs to protect the Butte County water resources.

Our Mission: To manage and conserve water and other resources for the citizens of Butte County.

About the Water and Resource Conservation Department

Butte County’s Department of Water and Resource Conservation was formed on July 1, 1999 following many years implementing programs to protect the Butte County water resources. The priorities of the Department come from the 2005 Butte County Integrated Water Resource Plan that includes: 

  • Administering Water Resource Management Programs
  • Groundwater Conservation Ordinance (Chapter 33)
  • Butte County Inventory and Analysis
  • Groundwater Management Plan (AB 3030 Plan)
  • Groundwater Monitoring Program
  • Drought Management Plan
  • Water Element of General Plan
  • Basin Management Objectives
  • Managing the State Water Project Allocation
  • Increasing Agricultural and Urban Water Use Efficiency
  • Informing and Educating the Public about Water
  • Supporting Solutions to Potential Future Water Shortages in the Ridge Community
  • Implementing a Coordinated Management Program
  • Taking Steps to Understand and Improve Butte County Water Quality
  • Serving as an Advocate to Improve Understanding of and Conditions for Special Status Species in Creeks and Rivers 
  • Coordinating Regional Watershed Management
  • Implementing an Environmental Monitoring Program
  • Enhancing a Multi-County Cooperative Outreach Effort
