Water & Resource Conservation

Butte County's Department of Water and Resource Conservation was formed on July 1, 1999 following many years implementing programs to protect the Butte County water resources.

Our Mission: To manage and conserve water and other resources for the citizens of Butte County.

Please be advised that due to the Corona Virus (COVID-19) our office lobby will be closed to the public until we are instructed to reopen by Butte County Public Health and Butte County Administration. In addition, all public meetings scheduled by Butte County Department of Water and Resource Conservation, Wyandotte Creek GSA or Vina GSA for the month of March and first part of April have been cancelled. The public workshops will be rescheduled to a later date.

During this time the staff will be working remotely from home. Voicemails and emails will be returned in the regular manner, however, should you have an emergency please call our mainline phone number at (530) 552-3595 and leave a detailed message. One of our staff will return your call as soon as possible.

Our mission is to manage and conserve water and other resources for the citizens of Butte County. We accomplish our mission by:

Protecting Groundwater through some of the strongest policies and programs in California.
Monitoring and Evaluating Groundwater Conditions to track trends in groundwater elevation, water quality and subsidence.
Supporting Sustainable Water Supplies for the long term health of our communities, economy and environment.
Advocating for the preservation of Area of Origin statutory protections and other established surface water rights.
Working Cooperatively throughout the region because we share common watershed and groundwater basins.
Advancing Education strengthens our ability to sustain our water resources through a well-informed public.
