Kory Honea was appointed Undersheriff in July 2010. As Undersheriff, he is second in command at the Sheriff’s Office and oversees the daily operations of the department.
Undersheriff Honea began his law enforcement career with the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office in 1991. During his tenure with Shasta County, Honea patrolled Lake Shasta and worked in the jail. Honea came to the Butte County’s Sheriff’s Office in 1993. As a deputy sheriff for Butte County, Honea held assignments in patrol, the Designated Area Deputy program and investigations. As a detective in the investigations unit, Honea investigated numerous homicides and other violent crimes. In 2000, Honea transferred to the District Attorney’s Office as an investigator where he continued to investigate homicides and cases of suspected child abuse. While at the District Attorney’s Office, Honea promoted through the ranks to become the Chief Investigator in 2008. Honea held that position until his return to the Sheriff’s Office as the Undersheriff.
Undersheriff Honea holds a Juris Doctorate from the William Howard Taft University, School of Law and is a member of the State Bar of California. He also holds an Associate of Arts degree from Butte College.
Undersheriff Honea has earned Supervisory and Management Certificates from the California Commission on Peace Officers Standards and Training (POST) and is a graduate of the POST Executive Development Course.
