Shooting at an inhabited dwelling

On September 10, 2016, at approximately 0415 hours, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office received a report of shooting in the 2400 block of D Street in Oroville.
Deputies responded with lights and sirens. They found that an unknown suspect(s) had shot a firearm into a residence, resulting in a 16 year old boy receiving two gunshot wounds in the leg while he was lying in bed.

The minor was treated at a local hospital and later released. No suspects have been identified yet. The case is still under investigation.

Body recovered on Lake Oroville

Oroville, Ca—On September 9th, 2016, at 9 a.m., Butte County Sheriff’s Office received a report from California State Parks regarding a fisherman who had located a body in the area of Red Tape Road on Lake Oroville.
BCSO representatives responded to the scene and located the deceased individual face down on the shore. Due to the condition of the body, BCSO representatives were unable to make positive identification at this time. BCSO Investigations Unit is looking into the possibility of the body being that of Stephon Jones, who was reported missing on February 10, 2016.
An autopsy will be conducted next week, and more information will be released as soon as possible.

ALLEGED BANK ROBBER CAUGHT AT THE BUTTE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE

Oroville- 9/9/16
A robbery occurred at the U.S. Bank in Lafayette on August 23, 2016, and detectives from the Lafayette Police Department determined Robert Keith Dennis, 55, of Oroville, was the suspect and he may also be involved in several other bank robberies across Northern California including Brentwood, Napa, Roseville and Sacramento as well as an attempted bank robbery in Davis.

On Wednesday, August 31st, 2016, Correctional Lieutenant Daryl Hovey with the Butte County Sheriff’s Office saw a law enforcement bulletin with a picture of the alleged suspect and noticed that same man was participating in the Butte County Sheriff’s Office work alternative program (SWAP). Dennis was arrested outside the Sheriff’s Office when he came to work that day as part of the program and was also found to be in possession of methamphetamine. Dennis was booked into the Butte County Jail on drug charges. Once released, Dennis will be arrested and transferred to Contra Costa County.

On Thursday, September 1st, 2016, detectives with BSCO along with Lafayette Police, Napa Police, and the Oroville Police Department served search warrants at several locations in Oroville. Elizabeth Fay Morse, 47, of Oroville, was arrested after Napa Police Detectives determined her alleged involvement in some of the robberies. Morse is being held in the Butte County Jail with bail set at $100,000 and will be transferred to Contra Costa County on charges of robbery and conspiracy.

Armed Robbery in Oroville

On Tuesday, 08-23-2016, at approximately 0100 hours, the Butte County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 7-11 Mini Mart located at 2125 Monte Vista Ave, Oroville for a reported armed robbery. One male suspect entered the business, armed with handgun. The employee was forced on the floor as the suspect reached behind the counter and took an undisclosed amount of cash from the register. The suspect was last seen running out of the business on foot. The suspect was described as a male, unknown race, wearing dark clothing with a hood on and his face covered.

Man Arrested for Attempting to Blow up Mobile Home Park

Oroville, CA- On August 13, 2016 at 11:30 AM, Butte County Sheriff’s Deputies were called out to 2426 Wheelock Rd, #E4, Oroville for a welfare on a man named John Brown (age 55) who had threatened suicide by blowing up his mobile home. Deputies arrived and spotted Brown. Brown attempted to walk away and was detained by deputies. A heavy smell of propane was in the air coming from Brown’s mobile home. Residents of the mobile home park were evacuated and Cal Fire responded in and turned the gas off. Upon further investigation it was determined that Brown had threatened to fill his home with propane and blow himself and the mobile home park up.
Brown was arrested and charged with criminal threats, and attempted use of an explosive with the intent to harm or injure others. Brown was booked into the Butte County Jail with a bail of $550,000
