BUTTE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE DEPUTIES ARREST THREE IN FRAUDULENT CHECK CASE

Chico, Ca--On 01/15/18, at approximately 9:45AM, Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) Deputies were dispatched to the California Check Cashing Stores location at 1456 Mangrove Ave, in Chico. BCSO Deputies responded to the business in the City of Chico due to a subject attempting to cash a fraudulent check from a business that is located outside the city limits, in Butte County.
Llano Seco Rancho was notified that someone was attempting to cash one of their checks at the check cashing store. The amount of the check was $968.67. The subject attempting to cash the check left prior to the arrival of BCSO Deputies. The male subject possibly panicked when the store manager stated he had to verify the validity of the check. Llano Seco then contacted BCSO, because Feather Falls Casino had previously contacted them stating multiple checks with their business name were attempted to be cashed over the weekend.
BCSO Deputies conducted an investigation, which led them to a residence on Magnolia Avenue, in Chico. BCSO Deputies contacted Markee Harris, Victoria Johnson and Jessica Jimenez at the residence. Harris was identified as the subject who attempted to cash the check. Harris admitted to attempting to cash the check as well as to cashing a fraudulent check at the Gold Country Casino for over $1,000 a couple days prior. Victoria Johnson admitted to cashing a check a couple days prior at the Wal-Mart Store in Chico for $1,108. The trio also attempted to cash multiple checks at the Feather Falls Casino, but were turned down there. It is believed that Jessica Jimenez printed the checks and conspired with Victoria and Markee to cash the checks for her.
During a consent search of the residence, BCSO Deputies located printing machines, blank checks, and numerous fraudulent checks printed with different business names on them. BCSO Deputies also located evidence that the subjects were attempting to counterfeit U.S. paper currency.
Jessica Leah Jimenez, DOB 08/04/82, was arrested for 4 counts of 476(a) PC (check fraud), 182(a) PC (conspiracy), 487 PC (grand theft) and 530.5 PC (identity theft). Her total bail was set at $105,000.

Markee Leon Harris, DOB 12/11/1974, was arrested for 2 counts of 476(a) PC (check fraud), 182(a) PC (conspiracy), 487 PC (grand theft), 530.5 PC (identity theft), 11377(a) H&S (possession of a controlled substance) and 11364 H&S (possession of controlled substance paraphernalia. His bail was set at $96,000.

Victoria Marie Johnson, DOB 05/19/1982, was arrested for 476(a) PC (check fraud), 182(a) PC (conspiracy), 487 PC (grand theft) and 530.5 PC (identity theft). Her bail was set at $60,000.

All three subjects were booked into the Butte County Jail. If anyone or any business has information regarding this case or has been a victim of fraudulent checks associated to these three subjects, please contact Deputy Galvez or Sgt. Brazzi at the Butte County Sheriff’s Office (530)538-7322.
