Arrests Made in String of South Oroville Drive-By Shootings

Oroville, Ca-- On September 10, 2016 a drive by shooting occurred at a residence in the 2400 block of D St. in the South Oroville area. During that shooting, a 16-year-old juvenile, who was sleeping inside the house, was struck in the leg by a bullet. The Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) launched an investigation into the shootings.

On September 16, 2016, BCSO detectives, who as a result of the shootings, were conducting extra patrol in the South Oroville area, performed a traffic stop on a vehicle in the area. Rodrigo Carmona Jr. – age 17, was a passenger in that vehicle. Detectives found Rodrigo in possession of a loaded .45 caliber handgun, at which point other BCSO deputies and Oroville Police officers arrived at the location to assist. Rodrigo Carmona Jr. was arrested for possession of a loaded handgun, which had been reported stolen during a 2015 residential burglary. Detectives later discovered that Rodrigo Carmona Jr. was involved in the September 10, 2016 drive-by shooting. Rodrigo was subsequently charged as an adult for his involvement in the shooting.

On September 23, 2016, BCSO Detectives served search warrants in the Oroville area and arrested Jeremiah Hill – age 16, and Bowen Hill – age 18, for their involvement in the same September 10, 2016 drive-by shooting.

All three suspects are charged as adults in Butte County Superior Court with their involvement in the shooting, including the charges of shooting at an inhabited dwelling.

Detectives are continuing to investigate the string of five shootings which occurred on and around D St. in the South Oroville area on and between September 9, 2016 and September 11, 2016. Anyone with information pertaining to this investigation is encouraged to contact the Butte County Sheriff’s Office at (530) 538-7671.
