BUTTE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE RESPONDS TO REPORTS OF POSSIBLE PIPE BOMB IN BIGGS
Oroville, Ca— At approximately 7:00am this morning, Butte County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a suspicious looking device attached to a Pacific Gas and Electric gas line in the area of B Street and Hwy 99 in Biggs. Deputies responded to the scene and confirmed the device had characteristics similar to a pipe bomb.
The immediate area surrounding the suspicious looking device was evacuated, and Hwy 99 traffic was diverted onto nearby roads in the interest of safety. The Butte Interagency Bomb Squad responded to the scene along with representatives from PG&E.
Once on scene, representatives from PG&E advised that the suspicious looking device was a piece of PG&E equipment. At approximately 9:00am evacuations were lifted and roads were reopened. This situation could have been much worse, we’re thankful for alert citizens who report things that look suspicious.
