The Butte County Sheriff’s Office is in the process of applying for grant funding through the California State Parks Off-Highway Motor Vehicle Recreation (OHMVR) program.

Funds from the OHMVR grant support the efforts of the Sheriff’s Office in patrolling the Jonesville Snow Park, the Plumas National Forest and the Lassen National Forest. These duties include enforcement of state laws, federal regulations, and Butte County ordinances. If awarded, Sheriff’s deputies will use patrol vehicles and snowmobiles to patrol in and around these areas year round. Deputies will assist with visitor safety, education, enforcement, and search and rescue efforts.

The Butte County Sheriff’s Office will provide information and education regarding environmental issues and conservation concerns regarding off-highway vehicle use. The Sheriff’s Office, along with Butte County Search & Rescue will respond to emergency calls for service in and around these areas as needed.

Beginning Tuesday, March 7th, 2017 through Monday, April 3rd, 2017, a draft of the grant application will be available for viewing and public comment at www.ohv.parks.ca.gov. From that website, the public will be directed to the Grants/On-Line Grant Application (OLGA) public review feature for instructions on how to submit their comments.

Oroville, CA- On Sunday, 2/12/17, at approximately 4:30 p.m., the Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) Jail Command Staff and Sheriff Kory Honea began an evacuation plan for the Butte County Jail due to the credible threat of potentially catastrophic damage to the Lake Oroville Dam Emergency Spillway.
All 578 inmates from the Butte County Jail were safely transported to the Santa Rita Jail, located in the city of Dublin, in Alameda County. This is the first time an evacuation order has been issued at the Butte County Jail. Approximately 80 personnel were involved in the evacuation and transportation to Alameda County. The Butte County Office of Education provided five buses, and assistance and transport vehicles were provided by the Placer County Sheriff’s Office, the Shasta County Sheriff’s Office, and the Tehama County Sheriff’s Office. The California Highway Patrol assisted in escorting the caravan of vehicles used to transport the inmates to Alameda County.
Sheriff Honea is working closely with Cal Fire and The Department of Water Resources in a unified command to manage the situation and the inmates will return to the Butte County Jail when it is deemed safe for them to return. Update:
On Wednesday, January 25, 2017, just before 2:30pm, Tina Marie Searcy returned home safe and uninjured. It appears Searcy decided to go on a camping trip without telling anyone. We are glad she is safe. The fact that she was able to go camping leads BCSO detectives to believe she was more ambulatory than initially described in the beginning of the investigation. We thank the public for their help in the search.

Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) detectives continue to search for Tina Marie Searcy, age 51, of Oroville. Searcy was last seen at her home on Feather Avenue in the Thermalito area of Oroville, Saturday, January 21st, at 4:00pm. Searcy uses a black and red motorized wheelchair, which is also missing from the home. Her dog; a tan Chihuahua (seen in picture) is also with her. Her cellphone and medication were left at the residence. BCSO Search and Rescue is responding to assist in the search.
Searcy is described as a white female, 5’8” tall, weighing 260 pounds. She has shoulder-length brown/gray curly hair. She was last seen wearing a black and white polka dot blouse, blue jeans, gray boots, and typically wears a blue coat. Anyone with information on Tina Searcy’s whereabouts is asked to contact BCSO at (530) 538-7321.

DURHAM BURGLARY IN PROGRESS LEADS TO THREE ARRESTS

Durham, Ca-- On the afternoon of 1-18-17, Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) Deputies were dispatched to the 9600 block of the Midway in Durham in regards to a burglary in progress. The home owner had returned to his property and located three subjects in a vehicle attempting to leave the residence. The property owner blocked the driveway with his vehicle, detaining the suspects until deputies arrived. Deputies arrived on scene and found that entry had been forced into two buildings and three Conex type storage containers. Numerous items had been taken from the residence. Several of the items were recovered from the suspect’s car and returned to the victims.

Jedediah Zackary Tyler Asbury (age 30, from Chico), Leroy Sterling Dillhyon III, (age 30, from Oroville) and Angelia Marie McAlpin (age 40, from Chico) were arrested for Burglary, Possession of Stolen Property, Identity Theft and Conspiracy. Additionally, Angelia McAlpin had three open arrest warrants for Burglary, Vehicle Theft and Failing to Complete a Work Release Program. All three suspects were booked at the Butte County Jail. McAlpin’s bail is set at $58,000, Asbury’s bail is set at $57,000 and Dillhyon’s bail is $57,000.
