Mail Theft Arrests

On Monday, December 23, 2019 at approximately 1:50 a.m., BCSO Sergeant Evans and Deputy Parmley responded to the area of Oro-Chico Highway and the Midway in Durham, after a report that a man was seen possibly taking mail from mailboxes in the area of Lott Road in Durham. The suspect vehicle was last seen turning onto Midway from Oro-Chico Highway. As Sgt. Evans approached the intersection of East Park Avenue and Midway, he saw a vehicle traveling north on Midway that looked similar to the description given of the vehicle involved in the mail theft. As Sgt. Evans turned around, the driver of the vehicle, later identified as Jeremy Blumlein, age 41 of Chico, fled in the vehicle, turning north on Fair Street. As Sgt. Evans attempted to catch up with the vehicle, the driver continued north on Mulberry Street and then east onto 16th Street. Once Sgt. Evans turned onto 16th Street, the vehicle had already lost control and had rolled over on the north side of the roadway.

Sgt. Evans and Deputy Parmley made contact with Blumlein and his passenger, identified as Breanna Maier, age 26 of Magalia, who were both uninjured. Sgt. Evans searched the vehicle and found several items of mail in the car. Approximately 108 packages and envelopes addressed to approximately 56 people and 37 different addresses from Durham and Chico were found in the car. Sgt. Evans also found methamphetamine and a wallet containing multiple gift/prepaid type cards and hundreds of dollars in cash.

Blumlein was arrested for felony reckless evading, identity theft, mail theft, violation of probation, and possession of a controlled substance. Maier was arrested for identity theft, mail theft, and violation of probation.
