On 1/18/18, at 12:30AM, Butte County Sheriff's Office (BCSO) deputies attempted to conduct a traffic stop on a suspicious vehicle, described as a black Chrysler 300 with paper license plates, in the area of Lincoln Blvd. and Virginia Avenue in Oroville. The driver of the vehicle pulled over, but as the deputy approached the vehicle, the driver fled. Deputies lost track of the vehicle, but advised local law enforcement to be aware of the circumstances.
On 1/18/18, at approximately 9:10PM, BCSO Deputies located the vehicle again, in the area of Wyandotte Road in Oroville. Deputies conducted a felony traffic stop on the vehicle, but the driver failed to comply with orders and fled. Deputies initiated a pursuit, which continued onto Meyers Street, to Oro Dam Blvd. and onto Southbound Hwy 70. Deputies lost track of the vehicle in the area of Larkin Road in Gridley, at which point a BCSO Deputy lost control of a patrol car and slid off the roadway. The patrol car sustained damage, but the deputy did not sustain any injuries.
Shortly after the pursuit ended, Deputies located the vehicle abandoned in a neighborhood off Larkin Road in Gridley. Deputies continued to search the area, but were unable to locate the suspect. Deputies were able to identify the suspect as Lawrence Jason Luis Lucero. Lucero is currently wanted for Felony Evasion.
