On May 10th, 2017 Butte County Sheriff’s Office Deputies attempted to serve a felony arrest warrant in the 3880 block of Cherokee Road, Oroville. Upon service of the felony arrest warrant, two males ran from the Deputies. A search was conducted and Eliceo Aguilar Morales, Age 31 from Michoacán, Mexico, was detained. During the foot pursuit, thousands of marijuana plants were seen on the property. Deputies contacted the Butte County Sheriff’s Office Special Enforcement Unit who took over the investigation and obtained a search warrant for the property.

The search warrant revealed 3,648 marijuana plants on the property; most of which were being grown in plastic cups and trays. Other areas of the marijuana garden held larger marijuana plants.

Water to the marijuana grow site was being diverted from a small creek which was fed by Grub Flat Reservoir. The water was being diverted from the creek to an illegally built pond and then pumped to the marijuana growing site.

A search of the home and property revealed 34.64 net pounds of processed marijuana. A loaded rifle was also found at the entrance to the marijuana garden.

Eliceo Aguilar Morales was arrested for felony cultivation of marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale, armed in the commission of a felony, and illegal water diversion. Morales’ bail is $500,000.00.
