BUTTE COUNTY SHERIFF’S OFFICE DETECTIVES INVESTIGATE HOMICIDE IN CHICO

Chico, Ca—On Thursday, March 16, 2017, Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) received a call from a citizen reporting what appeared to be the body of a deceased man located near River Road in Chico.

BCSO deputies and detectives responded to the location and confirmed the discovery. The body has been identified through fingerprints as that of Joseph Strickland, age 28, from Chico.

Due to circumstances surrounding the investigation, BCSO detectives are currently investigating the incident as a homicide. An autopsy will be conducted next week. Detectives have not identified a suspect at this time; however, it is believed that this was a targeted incident.

In an effort to protect the integrity of the investigation, additional details are not being released at this time.
