Beginning July 2, 2018, The Butte County Sheriff’s Office (BCSO) has transitioned to an online process for issuing Concealed Carry Weapon (CCW) licenses. BCSO is streamlining the process by utilizing a computerized program called “Permitium.” This allows users the ability to go online 24 hours a day, turn in the application online and submit payment(s). This process is for both first time CCW license applicants as well as CCW license holders who need to renew their license. The requirement for first time applicants to be fingerprinted and have a background check by the Department of Justice and the Butte County Sheriff's Office has not changed through this new process.
In California, “Permitium” is used in 40 out of the 58 Sheriff’s Offices. This new system will eliminate the need to make multiple trips to BCSO, and make the process of receiving and renewing CCW licenses faster. This new process will also increase our efficiency, saving staff time and resources at BCSO.
