The Public Works Department maintains more than 1,300 miles of roadways, including 255 bridges, 18,000+ road signs and thousands of drainage culverts. In addition, the department prepares engineered plans and specifications for new construction of roadways, bridges, signals and drainage structures. The department maintains a surveying division that is responsible for construction survey as well as right-of-way acquisition and mapping. Inspection of new road and subdivision construction is performed by a construction inspection division. The department’s solid waste division administers waste collection franchises and maintains the landfill. The department’s land development division reviews and approves property divisions and subdivision improvements, and is the local administrator for flood plain management. |
