Butte County Public Health Department Recognizes National Public Health Week 2011

In recognition of National Public Health Week, April 4-11, the Butte County Public Health Department invites Butte County citizens to join forces in supporting this year's theme of, "Safety is NO Accident: Live Injury-Free."

It only takes a moment for an injury to happen—a fall on a stair, a moment’s glance away from the road, a biking or sports-related injury, a medication mix-up. But it also takes just a moment to protect against injuries and make communities safer. Though it’s not something people typically think about or plan for, the potential for injury is all around us. Each year, nearly 150,000 people die from injuries, and almost 30 million people are injured seriously enough to go to the emergency room.

"Many kinds of injuries are not accidents and are preventable," said Butte County Health Officer Dr. Mark Lundberg. "Everyone is encouraged to learn more about the importance of injury prevention and to take the necessary steps to prevent falls and injuries during all stages of life.” Taking actions such as wearing a seatbelt, properly installing and using child safety seats, wearing a helmet and properly securing your pool are important ways to proactively promote safety and prevent injuries.

In promotion of creating safer places to live, the Butte County Public Health Department from April 4-11 is providing a variety of services at several events in the county. It is our goal to help our citizens live injury-free in all areas of life: at work, at home, at play, and in our communities. The BCPHD will be doing the following in recognition of Public Health Week:
