Butte County Environmental Health is designated as the Local Primacy Agency (LPA), under contract with the State Department of Public Health (CDPH) Drinking Water Program, to perform requirements specified in the State and Federal Regulations. The LPA oversees all public water systems less than 200 service connections within Butte County. The goal of Butte County’s Small Water System Program is to protect public health by ensuring that small public water systems deliver safe, adequate, and dependable (potable) drinking water.
The Small Water System Program is involved with permitting, inspection, and monitoring of 88 small public water systems. Other responsibilities include monitoring water quality parameters, providing water systems with technical assistance, issuing public notifications, and responding to complaints.
