Facility Registration

At the end of 1997, Governor Wilson signed AB 186 (Brown) into law. This law added sections to the California Health and Safety Code that require anyone engaged in the business of body art to be registered with the County Health Department in which the business is conducted. A link to the registration form is provided in the panel on the left portion of this page.

Voluntary Safety Program

With the assistance of students from the CSU Chico Environmental Health program, our office is please to present a new service to the consumer. Certain Body Art businesses have voluntarily opted into an inspection and assessment program designed to assure that they are using the most up-to-date best-industry practices and delivering their service in a manner that protects the health and safety of their customers. We applaud the participants in this voluntary program!

We urge consumers to consider safety from blood borne disease transmission when choosing an artist or body art business, and we suggest you use this website as one source of information about safe body art practices.
