Influenza

Influenza, commonly called “the flu” is caused by the influenza virus, which infects the respiratory tract (nose, throat, and lungs). Influenza is a leading cause of illness in the United States and can lead to serious medical conditions, hospitalization or even death. Flu seasons are unpredictable. They can begin early in the fall and last late into the spring. Influenza is extremely contagious and spreads very easily in communities. The best way to protect yourself from the flu is by getting an annual flu vaccine as soon as it becomes available.

Who Should Get Vaccinated?

It is recommended that everyone 6 months and older get a flu vaccine every year. It is especially important for individuals at high-risk for having serious flu-related complications such as:

Flu vaccine is available in Butte County. Several doctors, clinics and pharmacies have vaccine. Please call your doctor's office, clinic or pharmacy directly for more information.

At this time the following flu clinics are scheduled:

Butte County Public Health Department will be holding a FREE Flu Clinic Thursday, January 16th from 1:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (while supplies last) located at  202 Mira Loma Dr., Oroville. Vaccine is appropriate for adults, pregnant women and children 6 months of age and older. Concluded!

Enloe Hospital will be holding a FREE Flu Clinic Thursday, December 5th  from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. (while supplies last) located at Enloe Mother & Baby Care Center, 251 Cohasset Rd, St. 120, Chico. Vaccine is appropriated for adults, pregnant women and children ages 3 and up. Enloe Hospital is offering FREE flu vaccine for pregnant women every Thursday from October 3rd through November 21st (while supplies last). Vaccine will be provided between the hours of 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. at the Enloe Nettleton Mother & Baby Education Center, located at 251 Cohasset Rd, Suite 120 in Chico. Feather River Hospital will be holding a FREE Drive-Through Flu Clinic Monday November 4th from 2:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. located at the Seventh Day Adventist Church, 5720 Academy Drive, Paradise. This clinic will be for people 18 years of age and older. Concluded!

Biggs-Gridley Memorial Hospital will be holding a Flu Clinic Thursday, November 7th from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. (while supplies last) located at the Medical Specialty Center, 284 Spruce St. in Gridley. Vaccine will be for a fee of $2 or billed to Medicare if qualified. This clinic will be for people 4 years of age and older. Concluded!

Oroville Hospital will be holding a FREE Flu Clinic Saturday, October 26th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. (while supplies last), located at the Municipal Auditorium, 1200 Myers Street in Oroville. Vaccine is appropriated for adults, non-pregnant women and children over 12 years old. Concluded!

Enloe Hospital will be holding a FREE Drive-Through Flu Clinic Thursday, September 26th from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (while supplies last) located at Calvary Chapel, 1888 Springfield Dr., Chico.  Vaccine is appropriate for adults, non-pregnant women and children age 3 and up. Vaccination will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis, please remain in your car, wear clothing that allows vaccination to your upper arm and please do not contact Calvary Chapel for details. Enloe Hospital will be holding a FREE Walk-In Flu Clinic Thursday, October 10th from 7:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (while supplies last) located at Manzanita Place (Elk’s Lodge), 1705 Manzanita Ave., Chico.  Vaccine is appropriated for adults, non-pregnant women and children age 3 and up. Vaccination will be given on a first-come, first-serve basis, please park in the rear parking lot and form a line from the front door to the rear parking lot, wear clothing that allows vaccination to your upper arm and please do not contact Manzanita Place for details. The single best way to prevent the flu is to get vaccinated each year, but good health habits like covering your cough and washing your hands often can help stop the spread of germs and prevent respiratory illnesses like the flu.
