Public Health

The mission of the Butte County Public Health Department (BCPHD) is to protect the public through promoting individual, community, and environmental health.

Other Diseases & Conditions

As the Public Health Department, it is our goal to protect the health of the community through prevention, early diagnosis and appropriate management and control of communicable diseases and conditions. This is achieved through surveillance, disease investigation, patient education, community awareness and acting as a resource to local physicians, nurses and medical personnel.

Hot Topics

The health department works strategically to prevent and respond to disease trends and outbreaks. We strive to provide timely and accurate information to the community and healthcare providers on emerging conditions.

Diseases & Conditions

Communicable diseases spread from one person to another or from an animal to a person. The Butte County Public Health Department provides monitoring and follow-up for certain communicable diseases such as sexually transmitted diseases, food-borne diseases, hepatitis A, B and C, meningitis, tuberculosis, and more.

Data & Reports

In an effort to combat the spread of communicable diseases, all counties in California confidentially track and report the number of cases in their community. The Butte County Public Health Department monitors the number of reported communicable disease cases in our county as well as administers a range of programs and services.

Report a Disease/Outbreak

The health department works strategically to prevent and respond to disease outbreaks. Healthcare providers and laboratories are required by California State law to report specific communicable diseases to the local public health department to aid in the monitoring of disease trends and outbreaks.
