Basic Rights of Youth at Juvenile Hall
  • Fair treatment and protection
  • A place to sleep with full bedding
  • Three full meals a day, and a nighttime snack
  • Clean clothing
  • Clean and sanitary living conditions
  • Certain personal hygiene items
  • Daily shower, access to a toilet and drinking water as needed
  • Minimum exercise
  • Information on rules and consequences for Juvenile Hall
  • Access to a grievance procedure
  • Parent and attorney (and attorney’s authorized agents) visits as well as phone calls
  • Access to legal counsel and confidential legal mail
  • Telephone calls - two at the time of booking; more calls if youth has children
  • Right to send and receive mail; legal correspondence is free and unlimited
  • Access to religious services
  • Access to an education
  • Access to medical care and counseling services
  • Translation of their rights, should they need it
