The American Academy of Pediatricians (AAP) recommends that infants be fed only breast milk for the first 6 months of life, with continued breastfeeding for 1 year or longer as complementary foods are gradually introduced. The AAP recognizes that breast feeding and breast milk benefits the health of the mother and baby and is the ideal food for infant growth and development.
Butte County WIC offers classes that teach women about breastfeeding and baby behaviors while they are pregnant, and provides support groups for women who are breastfeeding. We also can schedule an appointment with a lactation consultant for help with breastfeeding or milk supply.
