Public Health

The mission of the Butte County Public Health Department (BCPHD) is to protect the public through promoting individual, community, and environmental health. This is achieved by providing a wide range of services in more than 50 programs including: women and children’s health, communicable and infectious diseases, planning for and responding to disasters, healthy and safe animals, and protecting natural resources while improving the environment.

Public Health Testing & Screening Services

Confidential testing, counseling, and treatment guidance are available at our public health clinics.

Testing & Screening Services:

Pregnancy Testing

Whether you are trying to get pregnant or are concerned about an unplanned pregnancy, a pregnancy test is an important tool. Pregnancy tests are designed to tell if your urine or blood contains a hormone called human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG).  Knowing you are pregnant as soon as possible can help you make the decisions that are right for you.

STD Testing

Sexually Transmitted Diseases are common, but the types of testing you may need vary by risk factors. Our licensed clinical staff will assess your risk factors and order the appropriate testing.

HIV/AIDS Testing

Getting Tested for HIV is important for your health, your relationships, your life and your future. The fact is that HIV is preventable, and you can reduce or eliminate your risk. Early detection can lead to early treatment and better outcomes. Our Public Health clinics are now able to provide the Oral Rapid HIV Antibody test with results in 20 to 40 minutes.

Tuberculosis Testing

Our Public Health Clinics offer Low-cost TB testing and clearance to meet school and employment requirements.

Breast & Cervical Cancer Screening

Our Public Health Clinics are a provider of Every Women Counts (EWC), a state sponsored program that provides free clinical breast exams, mammograms, pelvic exams, and Pap tests to California’s underserved women.

Pre-Employment Testing

Our Public Health Clinic provides Pre-Employment Physicals. The exams are done based on the requirement/request of the employer.
