The County Veterans Service Office is an office established by the Butte County Board of Supervisors to assist veterans, their dependents and survivors, and the general public in obtaining benefits from federal, state, and local agencies administering programs for veterans.
We are a county agency and NOT the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).
We provide advocacy to the veteran community regarding entitlement rights to federal, state and local benefit programs.
**Filing your claim through the Butte County Veterans Service Office will greatly improve your chances for a successful, well-documented, claim to the Department of Veterans’ Affairs. County Veteran Service Officers and Representatives are certified, skilled professionals trained in developing veterans' claims for benefits by reviewing and applying relevant legislation, current law, protocols and important medical evidence.
The Butte County Veterans Services Office (BCVSO) is looking for volunteers from the community to assist with its various outreach programs and to assist veterans as they come into the BCVSO to seek benefits and services.
The County Veterans Service Office works as an advocate for those who have served in U.S. Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Reserves and National Guard and their family members in receiving the benefits and services earned through military service. These benefits and services include; pension, service connected compensation, aid and attendance, housing, employment, counseling and much more. The Veterans Services Office also works with a network of providers to connect all veterans and their dependents with exactly what they need.
“Our office strives to make sure all veterans in the community receive the benefits and services they have earned. Hopefully enlisting the help of community members and fellow veterans through this program will give us the extra people in the field, at events and in the office to give our local veterans every opportunity they need to receive the benefits they have earned” said Hannah Williamson County Veterans Service Officer.
Volunteers will perform office assistant duties such as, but not limited to:
Assisting in the development and planning of outreach to local veterans.
Assisting in the development and processing of veterans claims.
Assisting in helping veterans connect with benefits and services at the federal, state and local level.
Interested applicants should be:
Knowledgeable in researching benefits and programs using the internet and published resource guides.
Motivated problem solvers and dedicated to improving the lives of our local veterans.

The Butte County Veteran Service Office assists the Butte County sheriff's office and Northwest ASPCA with the Sheriffs 'second Chance Canine Companions For Veterans Program'. The 'Second Chance Canine Companions for Veterans' is a dog rescue and rehabilitation program designed to improve the lives of those in custody, who will train and care for the canines, and for the Veterans who will later adopt the dogs. Dogs are specifically picked from the animal shelter to be trained under the guidance of a certified dog handler/trainer for a 10+ week program to then be given to veterans as companion animals.
