CalWORKs Welfare-to-Work Program

The CalWORKs Welfare-to-Work Program promotes a "work first" philosophy. Participants test the labor market as part of the Job Search Services provided by the Community Employment Center, and facilitated by Butte College instructors. When participants need assistance to increase their job readiness, they are encouraged to attend a variety of Job Skills Workshops, enroll in Butte College, Oroville Adult School, or a career training program through the Regional Occupation Program. After recipients find work, a variety of services are available for up to 12 months to assist them in retaining their employment and become fully self-sufficient.

CalWORKs Child Care Program

The CalWORKS Child Care Program assists families transitioning off cash aid. The CalWORKS Child Care Program is administered in three stages. In Butte County all three stages are administered by Valley Oak Children's Services (VOCS), the Alternate Payment Provider (APP) under contract with Butte County Department of Social Services (DESS) for Stage 1, and the California Department of Education (CDE) for States 2 and 3.

CalWORKs Cal-Learn Program

The Cal-Learn Program was designed to assist pregnant and parenting teens receiving CalWORKs, to attend and graduate from high school or its equivalent.
