In the Investigative Bureau, the student intern will have the opportunity to work side by side with a veteran law enforcement investigator (our investigators have on average more than 20 years of service in law enforcement).  Successful intern applicants will be assigned to the Public Assistance Unit, the Special Victim’s Unit or the Major Crimes Unit, each is commanded by an Investigative Lieutenant.  For more information about these units, please go to the Butte County District Attorney’s website at http://buttecounty.net/da/investigation.htm

 Examples of student intern activities:

·  locate witnesses or suspected criminals using social media or various law enforcement search sites;

·  listen to recorded jail telephone conversations;

·  read jail email;

·  prepare investigation files;

·  accompany investigators on field investigations (similar to a law enforcement ride along);

·  observe court hearings and trials; and

·  observe interview and interrogations conducted by District Attorney Investigators.

Students who are interested in law enforcement or criminal investigation are encouraged to apply.  If you have any questions please contact Chief Investigator Richard West at 530-538-7411.
