Pesticide use information for the period of 1995 through 1998 is used as a baseline for comparison with future trends. There are several factors that account for any changes in pesticide use. Herbicide-resistance of weeds accounts for the recent downward trend in several chemicals. Conversely, there is a rise in use of new herbicides which attests to growers' efforts to replace those chemicals which are becoming ineffectual due to herbicide resistance.
